Abstract:
A revolutionary cradle system for cable-stayed bridges, designed and currently being patented by Figg Bridge Engineers, Inc., improves aesthetics by decreasing the size of the pylons, allowing for more slender pylon shapes. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will initially use the new cradle system on the Maumee River Bridge located in Toledo, Ohio. The bridge, which boasts a 1.2 million-ft2 (110,000 m2) bridge deck, will be complete by 2006. .
