Abstract:
This narrative discusses design and construction aspects related to the bonded post-tensioned Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Consolidated Parking Garage. Following a project description, various post-tensioning concepts and options for cast-in-place parking garages are discussed. Several design and practical benefits of bonded systems are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the special features of this project that set it apart from other parking garages. The narrative includes a discussion on features of the bonded post-tensioning system, quality control & field testing requirements, estimated post-tensioning friction and elongation losses, concrete placement sequencing, tendon stressing operations, and grouting procedures, material and equipment.
