Abstract:
Practical problems that arise at the job site when using the arithmetic average of any three consecutive strength tests to determine the strength level of a given class of concrete, from Section 5.6.3.3 of ACI 318-02, “Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete,” are discussed. Typically, when the arithmetic average of three consecutive strength tests is low, the cement content is increased. The ACI 318-02 Commentary, however, suggests other alternatives.
