Abstract:
The design of the Continuous electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) experiment stations, which were constructed recently in Newport News, Va., required timely and accurate predictions of complex stress distributions in the walls of concrete shell-type structures. This experience demonstrates that desktop computers running commercially available finite element programs can be used to analyze large finite element models of complex shell structures.
