Abstract:
The National Science Foundation Center for Advanced Cement Based Materials (ACBM) conducted a study aimed at providing guidelines for developing concrete with a lower potential for shrinkage cracking. There are three main phases to the study: development of test methods to assess the potential for cracking, determination of the influence of different material constituents on cracking, and development of theoretical models to predict cracking potential. The research is focused on drying shrinkage in applications such as highway pavements, bridge decks, walls, and industrial floors.
