Abstract:
Ordinarily, concrete placed in below-freezing temperatures requires thermal protection. However, the new ASTM C 1622, “Standard Specification for Cold-Weather Admixture Systems” discussed in this article may change that. The new specification will increase cold-weather concreting options by providing a standard specification for chemical admixtures that help protect concrete when the concrete temperature is expected to fall as low as -5 ?C (23 ?F) soon after mixing.
