Abstract:
Research has shown that sawdust ash, when used as a supplementary cementitious material, decreases the early strength gain of concrete. In the research presented here, metakaolin was added to sawdust-ash concrete with the objective of improving the slow strength development reported earlier. The results demonstrate that the detrimental effects on early-age strength gain can be counteracted by the addition of small amounts of metakaolin.
