Abstract:
Grade 60. No. 8 reinforcing bars were cold bent and straightened in the field. Bars were bent by machine and by hand to simulate the inadvertent bending of partially embedded rebar. After cold straightening, the specimens were tested and showed no reduction in yield or ultimate strength; some reduction in ductility was found in some specimens. These results may assist engineers in determining whether to permit cold straightening of partially embedded rebar of similar material with similar curvatures.
