Abstract:
The present canal system of the State of New York connects Lake Erie at Buffalo, Lake Ontario at Oswego, and Lake Champlain with the Hudson River at Albany-a total length of canal of 431 miles. The people of the State decided at the election of 1903 to issue bonds not to exceed one hundred and one million dollors to enlarge the existing canal system so that the demands of the present day for cheap water transportation might be met. The old canal had been outgrown by the commerical prosperity and progress.
