Abstract:
As a major part of the world economy, the concrete industry must play an active role in reducing the rate of greenhouse gas emissions, which is essential for sustainable development. Because there are few new technologies that can reduce CO2 emissions from the manufacturing of portland cement, the answer lies in minimizing the output of cement clinker. The discussion in this article advocates the use of fly ash, other supplementary cementitious materials, and high-range water-reducing admixtures to help reduce cement production.
