Abstract:
Computed theoretical deflections of a continuous five-span reinforced concrete box girder bridge are compared with actual observed values and with the designer's estimated deflections. An algorithm is developed to simplify calculations of changes in effective section rigidity due to changes in reinforcement, cracking of the concrete in the tensile zone and changes in the effective modulus of elasticity of the concrete.
