Abstract:
In the aseismic design of a reinforced concrete caisson, its stability and stress have heretofore been checked by Dr. Monobe's formula in Japan. This method is recommended when the ground is cohesionless stiff soil. But, for a caisson excavated in cohesive soil and based on a hard layer, the design method governed by its ultimate condition is proposed.
