Abstract:
A description of the methods used at the Laboratorio Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC) for determining the state of stress due to temperature changes in concrete dams. Illustrations of some results obtained are included with photographs of the instruments and setups used. According to the conclusions, the results are sufficiently accurate for practical applications, and these tests should be carried out whenever fairly important thermal stresses are anticipated.
