Abstract:
The provisions of ACI 318-71 concerned with the design of reinforced concrete members for torsion are discussed. The background to these provisions is also discussed, in particular concerning interaction effects between torsion, shear and flexure. The paper concludes with a summary of the steps involved in the design of a reinforced concrete member to carry a significatn torsional moment in addition to shear and flexure, when using the 1971 edition of the ACI Building Code.
