Abstract:
A comparision of ACI and CEB approaches to shear and torsion recommendations is presented. The author discusses the application of safety factors; shear resistance of members without shear reinforcement; reinforced concrete members with shear reinforcement; the effect of shear cracking on forces in the main reinforcement; shear resistance of concrete in short shear spans; prestressed concrete; equilibrium and compatiability torsion; designing reinforcement for torsion; and designing for combined loadings
