Abstract:
Structural safety is analyzed by means of a simple model of the design procedure. All potential uncertainties which may affect the safety are classified in 9 groups of errors. The characteristics of three different measures of structural safety are briefly discussed and particular emphasis is given to a new yardstick for safety, the "coefficient of variation of a structural design."
