Abstract:
Although numerous studies have demonstrated that FRP materials can be used for effective and efficient retrofit and strengthening of reinforced concrete structures, relatively little is known about the performance of these systems in fire. A recently developed insulation system for FRP-retrofitted concrete beams is described, fire test results are provided, and field applications of the fire rated system are presented. The results show that appropriately designed reinforced concrete members retrofitted with FRP and insulation systems are capable of achieving fire endurances greater than four hours under retrofitted service load.
