Abstract:
Among the different solutions proposed for controlling shrinkage cracking in repair applications, one of the most promising is the use of randomly distributed fibers. Following laboratory investigations to develop “crack-free” fiber reinforced concrete mixtures, plain and fiber reinforced concrete overlays were placed side-by-side on a plaza deck at the University of British Columbia. Results of the investigation indicated that better integrity and improved long-term performance can be expected from the fiber reinforced concrete overlay.
