Abstract:
The differences between the requirements in the ASTM A 706 specification for low-alloy steel reinforcing bars and the ASTM A 615 specification for carbon-steel reinforcing bars are explained. Following a comparison of the major tensile, elongation, bending, weldability, and marking requirements, the current relative cost and availability of A 706 bars are discussed. The article concludes with a discussion of the reasons for a recent increase in the use of A 706 bars.
