Abstract:
Several factors, including the owner’s desire for minimal maintenance, settling soils at the site, complex geometry, and railway traffic below the bridge, made the design and construction of the Reggiolo Overpass difficult. The demanding requirements were met by casting the entire prestressed concrete superstructure on one side of the span and then monolithically launching it over the railway to its final position. The design, construction, and launching of the bridge are described.
