Abstract:
The increasing use of rapid chloride permeability (RCP) tests for concrete acceptance testing has led to debate about the proper acceptance criteria for the test results. Current criteria, where no tests are allowed to fall above the specified value, are overly restrictive considering the high variability of the test results. This forces producers to design concrete mixtures with extremely low average RCP test values. New criteria that are based on the approach used for strength tests in ACI 318 and that balance the risks between the producer and the purchaser are proposed.
