Abstract:
In numerous buildings around the world, diagonally reinforced coupling beams are used to transfer forces between shearwalls, but the reinforcing pattern places severe constraints on beam geometry. To overcome these restrictions and transfer shear more efficiently, coupling beams with diagonal reinforcing that forms a double cross pattern have been introduced and tested. This double cross reinforcing system was used in the recently constructed Satrio Tower that is described in this article along with design calculations for a typical beam.
