Abstract:
L. S. Brown of the Research and Development Laboratories, Portland Cement Association, was one of the truly few original concrete petrographers. The linear traverse unit for measuring air voids so that the parameters of the air-void system in hardened concrete could be determined was one of his concepts, developed in conjunction with C. U. Pierson, also with PCA. This lead to the adoption of ASTM C 457. Brown left behind a legacy for concrete petrographers -- read, write, experiment, and try to understand what you have revealed.
