Abstract:
Describes how removing the surface skin of concrete can improve its durability. The factors contributing to this enhanced performance include a reduced area of exposed cement matrix, a harder cement surface, the ability of a rough exposed-aggregate surface to shed and diffuse rain, increased freeze-thaw resistance, and increased weathering resistance.
