Abstract:
An empirical equation for predicting the development of drying shrinkage of concrete over time was tested. One of the major parameters needed for this equation is the ultimate drying shrinkage. In this work, the ultimate drying shrinkage is estimated from an early age measurement of drying shrinkage using the modified Ross equation with some modification. It is shown that the ultimate drying shrinkage is predicted within ñ 25 percent, which is more accurate than previous methods. The proposed method is tested on drying-shrinkage results from the literature and is found to be accurate enough to model the development of drying shrinkage over time.
