Abstract:
The main auditorium of the Goetheanum in Dornach (built in the 1920s as the center of the Anthroposophical Society founded by Rudolf Steiner), near Basel, Switzerland, underwent a full restoration and artistic redesign. Shotcrete was the material of choice for this application that required large areas of thin construction elements and complex shapes. Once the shotcrete was applied to a combination framework and substrate base, craftsmen and artisans carved and sculpted the hardened surface.
