Abstract:
Describes research on the material properties of fresh and hardened shrinkage compensating silica fume concrete. Silica fume replacement ratios of Type K cement considered were 0, 5, and 10 percent. Properties measured were slump, air content, compressive and flexural strengths, permeability, permeable void ratio, and shrinkage. Results indicate that silica fume reduces workability, significantly increases strength, and dramatically lowers permeability, but adding silica fume may reduce the expansion of shrinkage compensating concrete. Shrinkage compensating silica fume concrete shows promise as a repair material for concrete structures.
