Abstract:
This paper addresses the problem of flexural ductility and redistribution of moments in statically indeterminate, partially prestressed linear members. The influence of prestressing on the ductility is discussed, and recommendations are made with respect to the treatment of the hyperstatic prestress moments at the ultimate limit state, vis-a-vis the allowable percentage of moment redistribution. Hyperstatic prestress forces result when the imposed deformations due to prestressing are restrained or prevented by the support conditions of the structure.
