Abstract:
Presents and discusses the results of an experimental investigation of anchor bolt group embedded in unreinforced concrete, monotonically loaded in shear. All anchor bolts are embedded sufficiently to prevent concrete failure with pullout cone. Tests are conducted on single, double (loading in both normal and parallel to bolt line), and four-bolt anchorage with varying edge distances and bolt spacings. No clamping force is applied to the bolts before testing. The single-bolt anchorages are tested for comparison with the double and four-bolt anchorages. Concrete failure with wedge cone is observed in most cases. It is found that the shear strength increases with increase in edge distances and bolt spacing. The minimum bolt spacings to avoid interaction effects between bolts on the shear strength of double-bolt anchorage are around eight and three times the edge distance for the cases of bolt line normal and parallel to the loading direction. The effects of support conditions are also investigated for the single and double-bolt anchorages. Based on the experimental results, the empirical formulas to predict the ultimate shear strength of single, double, and four-bolt anchorages are proposed. Reasonable agreement is found between the experimental and predicted shear strengths. 212-491
