Abstract:
A comparison between the compressive strength and rate of hardening of mortar and concrete is presented. Two types of mortar are used: the first is mortar screened from the concrete through a 4.75 mm (No. 4) sieve and the second is mortar proportioned based on the volume ratios of cement, sand, and water in the concrete mix. The relationship between concrete and mortar is the basis for a proposed quality control testing method. A method for proportioning mortars based on concrete proportions is also presented.
