Abstract:
The moment-curvature-based approach is used for the development of expressions for estimating the effective flexural rigidity EI of reinforced concrete columns subjected to short-term loads. Extensive comparisons of the proposed stiffness expressions are then made with the results of 108 tests and with the predictions of the ACI EI-expressions. It is shown that the proposed stiffness expressions have a good correlation with test results. Since the proposed expressions give a realistic representation of actual column behavior and are simple to use, they are recommended for general use in the design of slender reinforced concrete columns as well as in the estimation of deflections of columns under service load.
