Abstract:
Describes the design and construction procedures for the high level motorway suspension bridge across the eastern channel of Denmark's Great Belt. The East Bridge will be the landmark of the Great Belt Link, spanning the international shipping route between the Baltic and the North Sea. The bridge will carry four lanes of motorway and two emergency lanes from Zealand to the island of Sprogoe using 2 percent grades to allow a 65 m (213 ft) clearance under the main span. The total length of the suspension bridge is 2694 m (8839 ft), and the approach bridges total approximately 4 km (2.5 miles): 2544 m (8346 ft) for the eastern approach and 1552 m (5092 ft) for the western approach.
