Abstract:
Briefly describes four projects, three of which were originally designed for cast-in-place concrete, highlighting the key aspects involving shotcrete. The focus is on how shotcrete leveraged economy and schedule by reducing formwork costs and incorporating the shotcrete forms into the structure. The fourth project was a seismic upgrade for a university building, involving difficult shooting conditions: heavy and congested reinforcing steel, test panels to simulate some of the more difficult reinforcement congestion, and extremely tight shrinkage tolerances at the top of new walls where closing against the bottom of existing beams.
