Abstract:
The limits for the static and dynamic testing of joint sealants are based on actual measurements of the vertical movement of a test pavement in Ohio over a period of eight years. The recommended limits take into account the variable that may be present in the pavement under construction, such as subbase, slab length, and such. These limits were based on the truck speed and the position of the truck on the pavement. Two sets of values for the dynamic and static tests are proposed. One set is based on the 95 percent confidence coefficients of gamma-density functions that were fitted to the maximum movements at the joint. The second set is based on the average time-deflection curves that were plotted as the truck moved over the joint.
