Abstract:
Describes a testing program undertaken to determine the best technique for surface preparation to insure good bond between old and new concrete when repairing bridge decks, without using costly connecting dowels. Results indicate that water jetting is superior to mechanical chipping; provided that certain precautions are taken, good bond can be achieved without using dowels.
