Abstract:
Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) for pavements was first used in Canada in 1976 for a log-sorting yard in British Columbia. Since then, more than a dozen projects such as haul roads, bulk coal storage, and truck parking have been built in western Canada. The paving method offers the advantages of rapid construction with readily available road building equipment, use of lower cost marginal aggregates, and a pavement slab with properties similar to conventional concrete. Field performance has shown good resistance to freeze-thaw conditions. New uses in secondary highways and streets and in aircraft facilities are being contemplated.
