Abstract:
Describes a field experiment to repair 60-year old concrete piles located under an operating marine facility. The performance of four optimized underwater-cast concretes that develop similar properties when cast above water is evaluated. Findings indicate that the best performing concrete contains an antiwashout admixture and low contents of silica fume and fly ash. High in-situ unit weight, compressive strength, and impermeability values that can be within approximately five percent of reference samples cast above water can be developed.
