Abstract:
The mechanical interaction between a steel reinforcing bar and the surrounding concrete has been termed "bond-slip." Some researchers have been attempting to measure the interaction between reinforcing bars and concrete as if it were governed solely by the surface properties. Experimental evidence is presented showing that bond-slip is governed more by fracture behavior than by "interface properties." Bond-slip may not exist in the sense in which it has been described in the literature.
