Abstract:
Describes the construction of the $550 million (Australian) Sydney Harbour Tunnel, the largest privately funded public works project ever built in Australia and one of the leading examples of immersed tube technology in the world today. The longest road tunnel in Australia, it has three main sections: twin 900-m land tunnels on the north shore of the harbor; a 960-m immersed tube (IMT) made up of eight precast concrete units; and twin 400-m land tunnels on the south shore of the harbor.
