Abstract:
Environmental considerations require the construction of state containment of liquids. Shrinkage compensating concrete is used to construct monolithic tank farm dikes and other structures where liquid chemicals are stored, handled, or transferred. The article describes the special design and construction techniques used to construct monolithic containment structures without any joints, seams, or tension cracks. A preconstruction conference of key personnel is essential for a successful construction project. Items discussed during this meeting include the difference between shrinkage compensating concrete and regular concrete.
