Abstract:
Describes subway tunnel construction experience in the USSR, where precast concrete linings have been used extensively. The use of precast concrete structures for underground construction makes it possible to reduce the duration and the cost of construction and improve its quality. The major characteristics of some of the reinforced concrete structures used in Shield Tunnels and Cut-and-Cover Construction are discussed.
