Abstract:
Based on previously reported experimental studies, a simple design proposal for crack control reinforcement along the side faces of large reinforced concrete beams is presented. A design example is included to illustrate the proposal. Although the new proposal requires more crack control reinforcement than present design methods, comparable costs can be achieved by including the flexural capacity of the crack control reinforcement in the design process.
