Abstract:
One way of improving the sustainability of concrete construction is producing concrete mixtures using recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) in place of virgin aggregates. However, RCA is not widely used in new structural concrete because of a widespread perception of inferior quality. A new mixture proportioning method is presented. Test results for concretes produced using RCA demonstrate that RCA concrete mixtures can be suitable for structural applications, and they have the added benefit of requiring less cement than a concrete mixture of comparable quality made with virgin aggregates only.
