Abstract:
Continuous transverse reinforcement (CTR) can be used in lieu of conventional stirrups, ties, or hoops. Although, not explicitly permitted by ACI 318-11, CTR can be approved by a building official if adequacy is shown through sufficient documentation. Research presented in this article focuses on evaluating the performance of various types of members with CTR and conventional transverse reinforcement to generate data that could facilitate the use of CTR.
