Abstract:
"Nowadays, it is a common practice to design structures to develop an inelastic behavior without collapsing during a severe earthquake. Because of the inelastic behavior, the structure will suffer some damage that must be repaired. The lateral equivalent force method is the typical approach for seismic design; this method uses an elastic acceleration spectrum and a reduction coefficient because of the inelastic behavior of the structure. The force method shows some inconsistencies in the actual response and the actual damage of structures during a seismic event.
In this article, a design alternative is proposed for reinforced concrete bents of bridges established from the directdisplacement based design method, it is also included the effect of soil-structure interaction. A mathematical model developed in the software OpenSees is used considering the inelastic behavior of the material and interaction with the surrounding soil."
