Abstract:
This paper presents some of the results obtained in the research project PBI-05-031, supported by the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla La Mancha, Spain, from 2005 to 2007. This research project is focused on the structural answer of cable stayed bridges when the sudden loss of one of their stays takes place. The bridges used in the study are based on those presented in the parametric study included in [R. Walther, 1999]. In the first part of the study, it has been necessary to decide how to develop the numerical models of the decks, either by the Finite Element Method or by a Grillage Analysis. Considering that the Grillage Analysis is a very popular method for analysing concrete bridges, this paper includes the study developed regarding to the question above mentioned and the obtained results.
