Abstract:
This paper deals with an experimental investigation to optimize steel fiber reinforced concrete mixtures proportioning for airport pavements by Vebe consistometry, and its results in terms of flexural, strength measured under UNE 83-509 spanish standard for fibrous concretes. Previous research on steel fiber concrete proportioning and airport fibrous pavement performance is revised. Variations either in proportion of different fibrous and plain concrete mixtures and in its flexural strength are discussed. Results are confirmed with values obtained in an airport paving experience tried in 1996. Main conclusions are that not adapting the mixture proportions when varying fiber dosage damages average flexural strength and dispersion, and that Vebe consistometry may be used successfully to proportion steel fiber concrete.
