Abstract:
The Tajo River bridge is located between Almaraz and Jaraicejo on the Extremadura Highway. The bridge consist of two twin structures, one for each carriageway of the highway. Each of them, is a continuous span made of prestressed concrete 469 meters long in total, divided in 5 single spans 50 + 65 + 85 + 175 + 89 meters long. The two first spans in the Madrid side, were constructed on false-work and the other three spans by succesive cantilever method. Each of the 4 succesive cantilever stretches of 86 meters long, were formed by 18 segments. The typical deck section was a single cell box girder with a variable depth between 3.7 to 4.7 meters and a top slab 10.5 meters wide.
