Abstract:
In the early 1900s, many construction workers developed innovative ways of protecting themselves from falling objects on the jobsite by making their own hardhat. The helmets used in WWI provided the stimulus for developing protective hats that can be used in construction - the hard hat. The construction of Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge let the way of making the hard hat a standard on every construction site. This presentation will trace the history of the hard hat from military hat to the hard hat used today.
