Abstract:
New construction technologies and higher productivity requirements are driving the growing demand of high flow concrete with limited cementitious content. However, quality variations in raw materials, especially aggregates, pose great quality control, operational and economic challenges for concrete producers. This study describes new concrete admixtures that have been developed for ready-mix concrete and mass concrete to enable high flowability concrete in systems with lower cement contents while maintaining segregation resistance. Also discussed are test methods that help evaluate the different admixtures such as the V-funnel test as well as a field rheometer. Lastly, several case studies using the new admixtures are presented.
